Sony Electronics today announced its support of Digital Visual
Interface (DVI) with high-bandwidth digital content protection
(HDCP) by unveiling 13 new Hi-Scan 1080i Sony rear
projection tv sets and a prototype of a second-generation
high-definition receiver.
The new DVI/HDCP compliant products deliver uncompressed,
copy-protected, high definition video content through its
digital DVI-HDTV interface. The television sets range in size
from a 34-inch 16:9 widescreen flat-screen direct-view model
in the FD Trinitron® WEGA® series to 51- to 65-inch
rear projection widescreen models.
"We are pleased to be at the forefront of this new secure
format, providing a total HDTV solution through our new compliant
products," said Tim Alessi, director of marketing for
Sony Electronics' Visual Network Products Company. "With
cross industry support of the DVI/HDCP interface, we hope
it will bring more high-quality, high-definition content that
consumers have been waiting for."
DVI/HDCP has garnered cross-industry acceptance and is supported
by satellite service providers like DIRECTV, as well as major
motion picture studios and other content providers.
