In tune with a new lifestyle trend of Americans staying close
to home for fun and games, Sony Electronics today raised the
curtain on the Sony Cineza Projector, the
VPL-HS1, featuring high-definition capability, SideShot™
projection and a Memory Stick® media slot. The portable
Sony projector is just the ticket to turn any room into a
large-screen digital playhouse, offering a screen size of
60 to 150-inches diagonally.
"With the growing popularity of digital entertainment
sources - from DVD and DSS to video games and digital photography
- consumers are looking for a big screen display that will
bring their entertainment to life," said Lisa Baldino,
marketing manager for Sony Electronics' Display Systems Division.
"Ideal for screen sizes ranging from five to 10 feet,
the Cineza Home Entertainment Projector from Sony is a big-picture,
digital solution in a small, portable package."
Baldino added that the Cineza portable projector is also
handy for condominiums and apartments, where "space is
the final frontier."
The Cineza home entertainment projector sports SideShot
digital keystone correction, which makes it the first projector
designed for home use that can be placed on an angle to the
screen and still project images that are centered on the screen.
The feature can also help free up valuable space front-and-center
for the audience.
The Sony Cineza Home Entertainment Projector comes with
a remote control and composite video cable for direct access
to a single component. With an optional multi-pin signal interface
unit, cable management, as well as switching multiple video
inputs is made easy. All that is required is to plug in the
single cable of the interface unit into the projector and
then connect the unit to a cable or satellite receiver, DVD
player, VCR or game console.
Turn any room of the home into a movie house. Any day of
the week can offer a front-row seat for Saturday night at
the movies watching the latest DVDs and VHS releases. More
than 8 million DVD players are in use in U.S. homes and Americans
have bought more than 43 million DVDs, according to the Consumer
Electronics Association and the DVD Insider newsletter.
Enjoy watching high-definition broadcasts of sports events
on cable or satellite TV projected onto a large screen that
covers an entire wall. The Cineza system from Sony gives the
feel of a front-row seat of the playing field with life-size
images as though the action is coming right at the viewer.
Hold private screenings of home-made movies (e.g. a baby's
first steps, vacations, etc.) taken with a digital camcorder.
The Consumer Electronics Association reports that more than
2.5 million consumers have made the directorial debut behind
one of these cameras.
Turn gameplay into a huge experience by displaying the latest
video games on the large size screen. About 145 million people
play computer and video games. Forty-two percent of frequent
game players are more than 35 years old and 30 percent are
aged 18 to 35, according to an Interactive Digital Software
Association study.
Entertain family and friends with a digital slide picture
show with life-size electronic photos of such memorable events
as vacations and special occasions (anniversaries, birthdays,
holidays, etc.). Simply connect the handy projector to a digital
camera or plug in a Memory Stick removable media card. The
Photo Marketing Association and Photo Finishing News report
that 4.1 million digital cameras in use with consumers snapping
up more than 7.3 billion exposures.
The Sony Cineza Home Entertainment Projector delivers entertainment-to-go.
Like a football, the new unit can be carried under one arm
and brought to a second home or summer place to keep parents
and children entertained. It also features adjustable "feet"
to raise or lower the projector to the desired setting.
The footprint for the Sony projector is a mere 13 1/2 (w)
x 6 1/8 (h) x 11 7/8 (d) inches. The unit weighs about eight
pounds and can rest on the lower shelf of most coffee tables
when not in use.
The Sony Cineza Home Theater Projector is now available
for about $3,000.
