From the Epic series, the Philips 50pf9966 review

The Philips 50pf9966 is a 50 inch Plasma TV, a pretty nice size, perfect for your home theater system. If you are a move buff then the 16:9 aspect ratio should be familiar to you, it's the same ratio as used in movie theaters. The audio is supplied courtesy of 2 fifteen watt speakers, as well as a subwoofer system. Probably the most interesting feature to the 50pf9966 Plasma television is the Ambient Light technology. This technology can actually control the brightness of the picture screen, making it darker or lighter according to the amount of light in the room. Very cool and very useful, one thing I hate is when it's bright in the room and colors on the screen look washed out, this solves that problem.

This is a HDTV ready television however you need to purchase the high definition receiver separately, in order to receive a high def signal.

what do consumer reviews & ratings have to say?

  • "I investigated for months and personally looked at many high end plasmas out there. I bought the PHILIPS 50PF9966 50-IN HDTV and am really thrilled with it. The color is rich and so brilliant that when you have a true high definition signal that you feel you can reach right into the image. Coupled with my 5.1 surround sound system it seems I died and went to heaven. It handles all digital signals well but analog on the other becomes pretty hard to watch after viewing HDTV. Fortunately, analog stations are going the way of VCRs. It has pre-set viewing configurations and you can quickly flip through them to get the best picture possible if your as fussy as I am. The ambilight in the background is not just a gimmick, it really seems to enrich the viewing of the image" source - epinions
